Faux Finishes

Faux Finishes

Finishing is simply adding paint or plaster to create some variation of color or pattern on a surface.  It is often used to mimic another material (paint instead of plaster, plaster instead of wood) for reasons of economy and durability.

At its worst….it’s really bad – cheesy and garish – the popcorn ceiling of the paint world.  The best embraces a long tradition of artisans and craftspeople using various decorative painting techniques – glazing, marbleizing, wood-graining, fresco, tromp l’oeil, and mural work to embellish our spaces.
